Updated for 2026 — leveling paths for classic Interlude; the zones map closely to High Five too.
This Lineage 2 leveling guide with the best XP spots for Interlude walks you from level 1 all the way to 80, pointing you to the right hunting zone for every bracket. Interlude is unforgiving if you grind the wrong mobs, so the goal is simple: always fight monsters close to your level, keep your buffs and soulshots running, and move on the moment the experience starts to dry up.
How leveling works in Interlude
The single most important rule is the level gap. You earn the most experience against mobs within a few levels of your own, and once you climb roughly five to six levels above a zone the XP falls off a cliff. When that happens, pack up and move to the next area rather than grinding out of habit.
Two other things shape your pace. First, quest XP is enormous in the early game — the newbie and low-level quest chains in every starting village can carry you through the first 20 levels far faster than pure grinding. Second, party play multiplies your kills-per-hour; a balanced group with a healer and buffer clears mobs so much faster that the shared XP still beats soloing at most levels.
Best XP spots by level (1–80)
| Level range | Recommended zones | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1–20 | Starting villages — Talking Island, Elven Village, Dark Elven Village, Orc & Dwarven Villages — plus nearby fields | Lean on newbie quest chains; first class transfer at 20 |
| 20–30 | Ruins of Despair & Ruins of Agony, Wasteland, Execution Grounds, Abandoned Camp, Necropolis of Sacrifice | Gludio-area fields; catacomb access via Priest of Dawn/Dusk |
| 30–40 | Ant Nest, Cruma Marshlands, Fields of Silence & Whispers, Forgotten Temple, Partisan's Hideaway | Second class transfer looms at 40 |
| 40–52 | Cruma Tower, Sea of Spores, Alligator Island, Enchanted Valley, mid-tier Catacombs/Necropolis | Cruma is the classic bracket everyone remembers |
| 52–61 | Tanor Canyon, Forest of Mirrors, Oren-area fields, 50–60 Catacombs/Necropolis | Party zones start to pull ahead here |
| 60–70 | Tower of Insolence, Hot Springs, Cemetery, Anteroom, 60–70 Catacombs/Necropolis | Third class transfer at 76 is the next big wall |
| 66–74 | Dragon Valley, Ketra Orc Outpost, Varka Silenos Barracks, Blazing Swamp | Faction outposts give strong party XP |
| 70–80 | Wall of Argos, Monastery of Silence, Forge of the Gods, 70–80 Catacombs (Dark Omens / Forbidden Path) | Forge of the Gods relies on AoE trains — bring a full group |
Level ranges are guidelines, not hard gates. Servers with higher XP rates let you push into a zone a little earlier, and if a spot is crowded the alternatives in the same row cover the same bracket.
Early game: levels 1–40
Start in your home village and clear the newbie quests before you grind a single extra mob — the reward XP and starter gear are worth far more than the time they cost. Humans begin on Talking Island, Elves in the Elven Village, and so on, with each race funneling toward the Gludio fields after the level 20 class transfer. From 20 to 30 the Ruins of Despair and Agony, Execution Grounds and Abandoned Camp are reliable, and the low catacombs and necropolises open up once you register with a Priest of Dawn or Dusk. By 30–40 the Ant Nest and Cruma Marshlands become the go-to spots as you prepare for your second class change.
Mid game: levels 40–60
Welcome to Cruma Tower, the most iconic grinding zone in the game. From about 40 to 52 it is packed for a reason, and when it is full the Sea of Spores, Alligator Island and Enchanted Valley cover the same range. This is also where the right character build starts to matter a lot — if you are still deciding on a main, our Lineage 2 classes explained guide breaks down which class levels smoothly solo versus which ones want a party. From 52 to 61, Tanor Canyon and the Forest of Mirrors take over, and the matching Catacombs tiers are a great crowd-free alternative.
Late game: levels 60–80
The final stretch is where Interlude gets its reputation for being slow. Tower of Insolence and the Hot Springs anchor the low 60s, alongside the Cemetery and Anteroom zones. Around 66 you unlock the faction content: the Ketra Orc Outpost and Varka Silenos Barracks give some of the best experience per hour in a party, though siding with one faction turns the other permanently hostile. Dragon Valley and Blazing Swamp fill the same window, and from the low 70s you move to the Wall of Argos and Monastery of Silence. Once you hit 76 and take your third class transfer, most players settle into the Forge of the Gods, where AoE trains chew through mobs fast — but only with a real group behind you.
Solo vs. party
You can solo comfortably up to the mid-50s, especially on classes with self-heals, summons or strong AoE. Past 60 the mobs hit harder and have more HP, so a party is almost always faster: a healer keeps everyone alive, a buffer stretches your damage and defense, and a tank lets you pull larger packs. Faction outposts and the Forge of the Gods in particular are built around group play. If you must solo the higher zones, a boxed buffer or summoner makes the Ketra and Varka barracks manageable, and the edges of the Wall of Argos are workable with good gear.
Buffs, soulshots and prep
Nothing speeds up leveling like keeping your consumables topped off. Always run the right grade of soulshots or spiritshots for your weapon — the damage boost pays for itself in faster kills. Full buffs (Prophet, Warcryer, or a shop buffer on most private servers) can double your effective clear speed, so never grind unbuffed if you can avoid it. Soulshots and gear cost money, which is why a steady income matters early; our Lineage 2 adena farming guide covers how to fund your grind. Finally, squeeze extra stats out of your character with symbol dyes — plug your class into the Dye & Symbol Calculator to find the optimal +STR/+DEX/+CON setup for faster kills and better survivability.
